Privacy Policy — Earthback

The short version: We collect what we need to run the community. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything you haven't consented to. Your data belongs to you and you can take it with you. Questions: earthbackproject@gmail.com.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect:

Your name (or nickname — you choose how you're known)
Your email address
Your general location (city or region, not precise coordinates)
What you bring and what you're looking for (the text you enter on signup)
The type of member you are (individual, organization, community, etc.)

When you use the platform, we also collect:

Content you post (project updates, technique shares, resource listings)
Commitments you make to projects
Basic usage logs (when you logged in, what features you used) for security and debugging

If you use the AI profile builder and paste a URL, we fetch and process that page to generate your profile draft. You review everything before it's saved — nothing from that scan becomes part of your profile without your approval.

What we don't collect

Precise location data or GPS coordinates

Browsing history outside of Earthback

Financial information (we don't currently process payments)

Device microphone or camera access

Data from other apps on your device

What we never do with your data

Sell it to anyone, ever

Share it with advertisers

Use it to train AI models for third parties

Show it to other members without your consent

Use it for any purpose beyond running and improving Earthback

How we use what we collect

To create and maintain your account

To show your profile and posts within the community

To send you transactional emails (login links, project notifications you've opted into)

To keep the platform secure and prevent abuse

To improve how Earthback works, using aggregate and anonymized patterns

Email

We use your email address to send you login links (magic link auth — no password required). You'll only receive emails related to your account and the communities you're part of. There's no marketing list. You can opt out of any non-essential emails from your profile settings.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored on servers in the United States. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. We limit access to your data to the people who need it to operate the platform.

We're built on AT Protocol, which means your core profile data is stored in a way that's portable and user-controlled by design — not locked in a proprietary silo.

Your rights

You can, at any time:

Access all data we hold about you — email us and we'll send you a full export
Correct inaccurate information in your profile
Delete your account and all associated data
Export your content and profile in a portable format
Opt out of non-essential communications

Cookies

We use a minimal number of cookies — just what's needed to keep you logged in and remember your session preferences. We don't use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We don't use third-party analytics that track you across the web.

Third-party services

We use a small number of third-party services to operate the platform:

Email delivery (Postmark or Resend) — to send you login links and notifications
Infrastructure (cloud hosting providers) — to store and serve the platform

These services are given only the data they need to perform their function. We don't use any advertising networks, social tracking pixels, or behavioral analytics platforms.

Children's privacy

Earthback is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has created an account, email us and we'll remove it promptly.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll notify members by email and update the effective date above. We'll never make changes that significantly reduce your privacy rights without giving you the opportunity to delete your account first.
